I rarely tell people this, but I graduated from National Taiwan University’s finance department (class B96). Finance never bothered me, but four years in, I still hadn’t found anything I was passionate about: not from the coursework, not from business competitions, not from internships.
Back then I remember thinking: I don’t know what to do after graduation. Might as well go study abroad. So I sat for the GMAT and walked away with a decent score, 760.
Turns out the thing I actually found my passion and talent for was the GMAT itself, the highly logical, highly structured side of it. And that’s how I ended up as a GMAT teacher, still going today.
I look back sometimes and wonder: if I’d found the spot where my talent and passion actually lined up sooner, would I have had a place in finance too? It’s a fun thought, but life’s already half over, and starting from scratch isn’t cheap.
Then I came across @g_c088. Anyone who follows him knows he’s spent the past two years relentlessly and freely using Threads to share career intel, pooling experience from people who’ve actually been through it. What’s most valuable is that he never brings a preset filter or judgment to it. If someone like him had existed twenty years ago, I might have made different decisions back then.
We connected privately a while back, because I thought what he was doing was genuinely valuable (every reply in his comment section is a hidden gem), and I happened to be using AI to process a huge stack of teaching material at the time. So we talked in depth about his future mission and role, and what all that real, valuable career-sharing data could eventually become. Except agents weren’t powerful enough yet back then, so a lot of it stalled once we got into hand-tinkering with the AI.
But over the past six months, agent capability has jumped forward a lot, and we’ve each been learning and keeping up with the latest developments in our own lanes. I launched a study-abroad test product on my end, and GC launched a fully built-out career navigation platform.
The screenshot below is the actual result from the first time I ran it myself (not something he handed me; I tested it myself). Through a carefully designed set of questions, it genuinely mapped out my ability profile and where I land, plus follow-up path suggestions and actions, enough that (like in the image) it can basically turn your fate around.
Any professional with 15+ years in the field can tell at a glance that none of these questions were thrown together carelessly. And the analysis and recommendations it gives back are drawn from a huge amount of real, firsthand sharing from senior peers across the same fields on Threads.
If I could go back in time to 2011, I’m sure the version of me who had access to this site would’ve walked a different path. Or maybe, if AI agents had existed back then, the version of me with hidden talent and passion buried somewhere would have found a third path entirely. Who knows.
